Three things that quietly drain retirement income

Most retirees face these challenges — but few realize they're avoidable with the right plan.

SS Timing Mistakes

Claiming Social Security at 62 vs. 70 can mean a difference of $200,000+ over your lifetime. The "right" age depends on your health, savings, and spouse — not just a rule of thumb.

🏥

Medicare IRMAA Surcharges

If your income exceeds IRS thresholds, Medicare can cost up to $594/month per person — instead of the standard $185. Strategic income planning before retirement can prevent this entirely.

📉

The Retirement Income Gap

When your paycheck stops, Social Security alone rarely covers expenses. Without a guaranteed income stream, even a modest market downturn can permanently damage your retirement.

How it works

Social Security
When should I claim Social Security?
It depends on your health, life expectancy, other income sources, and whether you have a spouse. Claiming early (62) locks in a permanently reduced benefit — up to 30% less than your full retirement amount. Waiting until 70 earns delayed credits worth 8% per year. The right answer is almost always unique to your situation, which is exactly what the optimizer helps you figure out.
What does the Social Security optimizer show me?
It models your break-even age, lifetime Social Security totals at every claiming age from 62 to 70, spousal coordination scenarios, and the impact on your overall retirement income. You can run it right now at retire360.app/tool — no account required.
What if I'm already collecting Social Security?
The optimizer is most powerful before you claim, but it still helps. We can model spousal benefits, look at your income picture going forward, and identify whether there are any Medicare or income gap strategies worth addressing.
Medicare & IRMAA
What is IRMAA and why does it matter?
IRMAA stands for Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount — a Medicare surcharge triggered when your income from two years prior exceeds certain thresholds. In 2025, the surcharge ranges from $74 to $443 per month per person on top of standard Part B premiums. One dollar over the threshold can cost you thousands per year.
Can I avoid or reduce my IRMAA surcharge?
Yes — with the right income planning before you retire. Strategies like Roth conversions, qualified charitable distributions, and timing capital gains can all help keep your MAGI below IRMAA thresholds. The analysis shows exactly where you stand and how close you are to the next tier.
Retirement Budget & Income Gap
What is an income gap and do I have one?
An income gap is the difference between your guaranteed income (Social Security, pension, etc.) and your actual monthly expenses in retirement. If your expenses exceed your guaranteed income, you have a gap — and you'll be drawing down savings to cover it. The analysis shows you exactly how big that gap is and how long your money lasts at your current rate.
How do I close an income gap?
There are several strategies depending on your situation — delaying Social Security, optimizing your investment withdrawals, or creating a guaranteed income stream that covers the gap for life. That's what the free call is for. We'll look at your numbers together and I'll walk you through what actually makes sense.
About the Free Call
What happens on the call?
We'll spend about 20-30 minutes going through your Social Security analysis together, talk through your income situation, and I'll answer any questions you have. No slides, no pitch deck — just your numbers and a real conversation. You leave with a clear picture of where you stand.
Is there any cost or pressure to buy anything?
The tool is free. The call is free. There's zero obligation. If there's a strategy that makes sense for you, I'll explain it. If there isn't, I'll tell you that too.
